Starting a KeyNect Call

Learn how to start a Keyfax KeyNect call via KeyNect.

Making a video call from the KeyNect UI without using Keyfax.

Note: Customer configuration may cause the 'Create Call' tab to be unavailable. See 'Configuring KeyNect - User Experience' for more details on how to enable this feature if the tab is not visible to you.

  1. Go to the 'Create Call' tab

  2. Recipient Name - this will appear on the splash page of the mobile connection web page

  3. Email for Mobile - the email address to which the call invitation is sent (either this or 'Telephone number for Mobile' must be set to create a call - both can also be set)

  4. Telephone number for Mobile - the mobile number to which the call invitation will be sent via SMS (either this or 'Email for Mobile' must be set to create a call - both can also be set)

  5. The description to associate with the Call - a description for the call that will be displayed in the 'Call Resources' page. If not set the 'Create Call' page will assign one automatically based upon the name and contact details of the intended call recipient

  6. Call Classifier - a string that should match the name of a known call classifier which will imbue the call with the properties defined against that call classifier. If unsure leave this field blank. If an unknown classifier is used the page will report that it cannot create a call with a non-existent classifier. For more details see 'Configuring KeyNect - Two or One Way Calls, Audio Recording Calls' and 'Configuring KeyNect - Video Quality'.

KeyNect Call - Desktop - Splash Page

On joining the call the desktop user is reminded of the actions the mobile device user must take to accept the call. This is useful when the two parties are already in a mobile telephone call which they wish to augment with video, thus giving the desktop user the opportunity to talk the mobile device user through the steps of accepting the video call.

Once the mobile user has accepted the privacy policy and connects to the call the desktop application will automatically accept the call and continue on the the 'call in progress' stage.

KeyNect Call - Desktop - Call in Progress

Once the call is in progress the desktop user has a number of options - starting with icons along the bottom of the page from left to right:

  1. Green Microphone - mutes their end of the call when red, when green mute is off

  2. Video Camera Icon - Start recording the video - when the video camera icon is clicked it will flash from red to black for a few seconds whilst it ensures the server is recording the video stream. Once solid red the recording has been confirmed. When recording both the desktop device and the mobile device report that recording is in progress in the top right hand corner of the screen.

  3. Cyan Camera Icon - when clicked will take a photo still from the mobile device. The quality of the photo is usually better than that of the video, so can be useful when you have found the specific issue at hand and wish a detailed view of it to be recorded.

  4. Cyan Torch Icon - toggles the mobile device's torch on and off. This is not a mistake, it is at the desktop end that the torch can be controlled on behalf of the mobile device owner. If they are venturing into a dark cupboard you can help them out by switching on the torch for them.

  5. Red Hand Up Call Icon - hangs up the call

When a call is hung up the call can be restarted by the mobile device user for up to 15 minutes after the last call hang up - as long as the desktop user is waiting to receive the call at the desktop splash page. When the call is hung up at either end both ends of the call go back to the splash page. If the call is hung up accidentally all the mobile user need to do is press the 'Start Video Call' button to restart the call.

KeyNect Call - Mobile - Splash Page

After receiving a text message (or email) from the desktop user, the mobile user should follow the link (URL) within the message where upon they will be displayed the splash page - giving details of the privacy policy and any other pertinent information.

Note: this text is configurable per customer. See 'Configuring KeyNect - User Experience'.

The splash page requests the user to accept the privacy policy:

Keynect Call - Mobile - Call in Progress

Once accepted the mobile device user is presented with a view of their camera input and the options to:

  1. Mute their end of the call

  2. Hang up the call

All other controls are in the hands of the desktop user.
